Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej Now Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born 12 November 1961. She was the first Romanian to receive a score of 10 at an Olympic event. Comaneci was first discovered by Bela Karolyi who was later her Romanian gymnastics instructor when she was just six years old. The first time she competed was at the National Junior Championships in which she was 13th place in the year 1969. In 1970, Comaneci won. She won three golds in her very first contest in a junior pre-Olympic meeting in 1972 for the communist bloc nations. The following year, 1973 as well as 1974, she was the junior all-round champion. At her first competitive event in senior level, Lyudmila Turkishcheva, a Russian athlete, won five gold medals as well being awarded a silver. She won the American Cup in New York City in 1976, becoming the first woman in history to complete a backward double salto as a dismount from the uneven bars that are parallel. In her teens, she began performing in travelling shows such as Ice Capades as a skater together with her younger sister Nina Wayne. Carol Marie Wayne was born on September 6, 1942, at Chicago Illinois US. Carol's career began in entertainment during her teenage year. She began her career as figure skater performing with her younger sister Nina Wayne as part of the traveling entertainment shows named Ice Capades. The shows were the ice skating of which was performed to music from the stage.
